About Demo Chapter

The cost of being a chapter is very expensive. Generally, the chapter will be billed $15k - $20k per semester by nationals alone. This is before they pay expenses for the house (generally $6k per semester). A group of college students has to provide ~$25k per semester, before they can spend anything on themselves.

Started in Summer 2019, this is a great way to help the chapter. 100% of all donations go directly towards the national bill.

Your payment is made directly to Demo Chapter's own Stripe account, not to the Five Dollar Club. Stripe takes its processing fee and the Five Dollar Club platform fee out of each payment as it goes through, and the rest is paid out to the fraternity's bank account, where it goes toward the chapter's bills. Card numbers are handled by Stripe and are never stored on this site.

Every card payment has two fees taken out of it:

  • Stripe's processing fee: 3.6% of the payment plus $0.30 per transaction. This is what Stripe charges to process cards and run recurring billing.
  • The Five Dollar Club platform fee: 5% of your donation, which keeps this site running.

So the chapter never gets the whole card payment. To make up for that, those fees are added on top of the amount you choose, so the chapter still receives your full donation (sometimes a cent more, from rounding). For a $5.00/month gift, your card is charged $5.76:

Because part of Stripe's fee is a flat $0.30 per payment, it takes a bigger share of small payments. A yearly package or a larger monthly package loses less to fees.

To cancel or update your card:

  1. Log in and open My account.
  2. Next to Demo Chapter, click Update card or cancel. This opens Stripe's secure billing page.
  3. Choose Cancel subscription, or update your payment method.

To upgrade (or switch packages):

  1. Go to Donate, pick your new package, and complete checkout.
  2. Then cancel your old subscription from My account using the steps above, so you aren't charged for both.
